born & based aotearoa new zealand

say hello

 KIA ORA, WILLKOMMEN, HELLO.
welcome to my online creative portfolio ::
photos: left/ jeff norman | above/ andi crown

I am a versatile dance and performance artist
who was born amongst the geothermal ruptures of rotorua,
grew up in the currents of the mighty waikato river
and found one of my many homes amongst the
contemporary dance community of tāmaki makaurau auckland, growing my craft formally at unitec performing arts faculty [2011].
my bloodlines trace through german, italian and english heritage.
currently I live and work transiently ::

my body of choreographic and performance work is
diverse, multi-disciplinary and spans a decade.
framed within my millenial cis-female lens,
common thematic and energetic imprints include
dissecting power dynamics & social structures and
utilizing the body's inherent political & symbolic potency
to extrapolate something of the human psyche ::

commissioned choreographies include:
'transit' for T.H.E. dance 2nd co. singapore [2018]
via an asia:nz foundation residency;
'revilery' for footnote nz dance [2015];
'stranger people' by doprah for candlelit pictures,
a VMA-nominated music video [2014] ::

I've had the pleasure to perform with friends such as
malia johnston x auckland live
red leap theatre
nz fashion week x jason lingard CHAOS
charles koroneho & lilibeth cuenca rasmussen x living room fest
splore festival x lucy-mary mulholland ::

under the [now-retired] collective moniker 'black sheep productions',
I have created & collaborated on more than than 8 independent shows presented all around aotearoa nz
supported by creative new zealand
& various other festivals and funding bodies.
our first show 'how to make friends and still appear normal'
won best dance at NZ fringe [2013];
our show 'everything anyone ever wanted' was part of q theatre's curated programme 'q presents' [2016] ::

aside of my personal creative endeavours
I have nurtured my art form & its community via
producing work, including with
foster group dance [sarah foster-sproull] 2014 -19
orchids, sisters of the black crow
& okareka dance co. [taiaroa royal & taane mete] 2012 -17
mana wahine, k' rd strip, nga hau e wha ::
